The issue
This family business with a 121-year history has been led by the fourth generation of Brunet and their associates for over 25 years. The fifth generation is now on board to prepare for the takeover. The four buyers now form a new team that must learn to work together to achieve autonomy, collective efficiency, and the ability to meet the company’s goals.
The approach
- Team Coaching
The team coaching approach was designed to bring out the full potential of the group of entrepreneurs. The seven bi-monthly meetings of two hours each focused on a theme identified by the coaches and the participants. The sessions first allowed the team to become aware of its own functioning. An analysis of the group’s results on two psychometric tests helped them get to know themselves as well as the other members of the team. It also enabled to target some issues on which the managers had to work. The process allowed the team to identify its mission, vision, roles, objectives, communication methods, and values. A co-development model was presented in an effort to foster collaboration to follow up on the team coaching process.

Testimony
During our business succession process, we decided to call on EPSI to guide us in our communications within our team of partners. Our team coaching sessions with EPSI enabled us to open a dialogue among ourselves, discover our communication strengths and weaknesses, and become aware of our different leadership styles. We were able to develop a common vision for our team and reach an agreement on shared values. This process also gave us the opportunity to clarify the roles and responsibilities of each member of our team and to set up communication mechanisms. We came out of this experience as a stronger, more cohesive team, as well as more comfortable with each other and better equipped to communicate and address more difficult issues. This helped us in our journey to take over our company and gave confidence to each of our team partners as well as to the company’s seller partners.
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Stéphanie and Marie Christine for their guidance during this experience.
